Bicycle Beauty from the 1940s riding a Schwinn Bicycle. There is no guessing as to why this bicycle is a dearly coveted vintage bicycle, highly desirable and sought after....

I am so inspired looking at this photo. I love her tap pants, halter top and cute saddle shoes. She looks as adorable today as she did when the photo was taken!

Starting at the top and including the photo directly below it - The Big Apple Tweed Ride

The three gents with their fine bicycles are from the Spring Boston Tweed Ride or rather should I say the Boston Linen Ride.

The lovely couple by the sea are from the Santa Barbara Tweed Ride.

The spiffy and dapper bicyclists on the bridge are from the Santa Cruz Tweed Ride

Lastly we have a jolly video from the Flagstaff Tweed Ride.

Montrose New Jersey and Calgary Canada also had Tweed Rides, but I was hard put to find much in the way of any photos. However...

All and All another spectacular month for Tweed Rides!

* I have given attention to the photographers/videographer of these fine images and you can find their links under each image so go pay them a visit!
****
I am continuously amazed at the number of rides that keep popping up each month! My thinking was that sooner or later the summer months would stifle all the fun out of a Tweed Ride due to the sweltering summer heat experienced in so many parts of the world. I do say world because as I was writing this I learned of another recent ride in Lille France.

I am happy to report that June has a number of rides coming up so please go check the side bar where you will The Tweed Report calendar. Hint hint: SeerSucker in Tweed Rides is BIG!

Marilyn Monroe on a Bicycle - Looking SO Adorable

marilyn monroe an a bicycle shared by ridingpretty
Marilyn Monroe via vintagelifenetwork

Marilyn looks so young and adorable, the puppy in the bicycle basket really melts my heart too.

What is so surprising is how fresh the stripes, and suspenders worn with her white shorts look - especially when you compare it to a few of the looks in Yves St. Laurent Cruise 2011 as seen here - well to my imaginative eye anyway.

As an added treat I found the receipt for an English bicycle Marilyn rented! :

"Receipt from Hans Ohrt Lightweight Bicycles, dated June 23, 1962, issued to "Miss Marilyn Monroe," with handwritten check payment number and date paid. Hans Ohrt Lightweight Bicycles, owned by famed bicyclist and inventor of the bike helmet, Hans Orht, was visited by Monroe two months before she passed away. There she rented an English bicycle for a month at the charge of $18.00."

Renting bicycles was apparently fashionable and rather common in Beverly Hills circa 1962 :) Now I can only imagine just what kind of English bicycle Marilyn rented, what it looked like and just where that bicycle is now.

I love vintage bicycles, you just never know.

Cute Bicycle Video! - Thanks to Jeighmee of Midsummer Cruisers

Thanks to Jeighmee of Midsummer Cruisers for alerting me to Natalia Lafourcade's video. Read more about the video on Jeighmee's charming blog. Jeighmee's blog covers bicycle lifestyle in Puerto Rico!

After seeing this video I'm even more in love with my own little foldie bicycle. Now to get a vintage red samsonite suitcase (like the one in the video) and put on my traveling shoes.

DIY - Attach a Wine Crate to Your Bicycle Rack

Here's a simple DIY. It's a Wine Crate or basically how to attach one to your back bicycle rack. A reader wanted to know more about mine, so here goes...

Wine box on your Bike DIY by ridingpretty

The really hard part is finding a good quality wine crate. The one I have is solid oak. I looked for a good year before I came across this one. It is just the right size to fit on my back rack.

Now comes the bungee cord part. You want to find ones that are the right size, so they loop and attach with just the right amount of tension to hold the wine crate secure.

Next you want to thread the bungee cord so as to make it be as inconspicuous as possible - for aesthetic reasons! I fiddled around for some time to find the right method to keep it nicely concealed, yet sturdily doing it's job.

Lastly for added flourish and panache I use my own DIY sourced cargo straps. I scoured around (thrift stores) to find D ring belts like the one above and the one bellow. I use them in all types of ways. The pretty flower belt (above) always seems to go on my wine crate to hold things in place, and as you may well have noticed here and here. .

This super rugged D ring belt is used to roll my picnic blanket - which I take with me whenever I go for county picnic outings on my bicycle.

Hope you liked this super simple DIY. AND Thank Goodness for thrift stores.
